Farooque Sheikh reacts sharply to the sting operation by a private TV channel; he''s skeptical about it leading to any logical conclusion

There are no histrionics, no nothing. When Farooque Sheikh speaks on the sting in the tale of Bollywood, he does so without pretensions and with the conviction of a man who knows what he is saying.

"Perhaps Shakti Kapoor deserved it, but his family didn''t.
1x1 polls
C''mon, the man has teenaged daughters. Has anyone spared a thought for them? No father, however crass, deserves to be caught by his children with his pants down. They must be going through hell, but then, who cares," says Farooque Sheikh in an exclusive interview to Lucknow Times.

"As for morality and ethics, where are they anyways? We lost our morality a long time back, so why waste our breath on it now? It''s not going to serve any purpose. In any case, the issue here is not so much about ''their'' rectitude as it is about ''our'' depravity. Call it human nature or what you will, but nothing gladdens our heart more than somebody''s fall from grace. The bigger a person, the greater our degree of satisfaction. Before Aman Verma, we had been talking about the footage on Shakti Kapoor. Tomorrow, we''d be fixated to something more gross and then to something even worse and so the cycle would go on as would our hunt for a new prey. It''s been like this always. First there was the MMS, then the CDs and now you have it on the television. The bars of profanity are getting lower and lower and at this rate, very soon there wouldn''t be any bars left.

"Whether the expose would make any difference, I don''t know, but I doubt it. For one year, the Bill Clinton and Monika Lewinsky episode made headlines across the world, but did that change anything? Clinton was still elected President for the second term and the episode is now forgotten. Life goes on. Nothing changes, except perhaps the face of our next victim."
mazhar.farooqui@timesgroup.com
